Indian Army SSC (Tech) 68 Recruitment 2026 – Detailed Selection Process

The selection process for the Indian Army SSC (Tech) 68 Men Course (April 2027) is designed to identify technically qualified, physically fit, and leadership-oriented candidates. There is no written examination. Selection is based on academic performance, the SSB Interview, medical fitness, and the final merit list.

Step 1: Online Application

Candidates must submit their online application through the official Indian Army recruitment portal within the prescribed application period. They should carefully enter their personal details, educational qualifications, and engineering stream, as any mismatch between the application and degree documents may lead to rejection.

Step 2: Shortlisting of Applications

The Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) shortlists candidates based on the cumulative percentage of marks obtained in the engineering degree. A separate cut-off is prepared for each engineering stream depending on the number of vacancies and applications received.

Final-year engineering students are shortlisted based on the cumulative marks obtained up to the prescribed semester/year, provided they satisfy all eligibility conditions.

Step 3: Selection of SSB Interview Centre

Candidates who are shortlisted must log in to the recruitment portal and choose their SSB Interview date and centre on a first-come, first-served basis. Once selected, the interview schedule generally cannot be changed except under exceptional circumstances decided by the Army authorities.

Step 4: Five-Day SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates are called for a five-day Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview at one of the designated centres, such as Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Jalandhar.

The SSB Interview consists of two stages:

Stage I – Screening Test

Candidates undergo:

  • Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test
  • Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT)

Only candidates who qualify Stage I are retained for the remaining stages. Those who fail are sent back on the same day.

Stage II – Psychological & Personality Assessment

Candidates who clear Stage I undergo a comprehensive assessment over the next four days, which includes:

  • Psychological Tests
  • Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks
  • Group Discussions
  • Outdoor Group Activities
  • Individual Obstacles
  • Command Task
  • Lecturette
  • Personal Interview
  • Conference

These tests evaluate leadership qualities, communication skills, decision-making ability, teamwork, intelligence, confidence, and officer-like qualities (OLQs).

Step 5: Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by the SSB must undergo a detailed military medical examination to ensure they meet the Indian Army’s prescribed medical standards. Medical fitness is mandatory for final selection. Candidates declared medically fit proceed to the merit list stage.

Step 6: Final Merit List

The final merit list is prepared based on:

  • SSB Interview performance
  • Medical fitness
  • Fulfilment of all eligibility conditions
  • Availability of vacancies in the respective engineering stream

Merely qualifying the SSB Interview does not guarantee selection. Candidates are selected strictly according to merit and the number of available vacancies.

Step 7: Joining Letter & Training

Candidates whose names appear in the final merit list receive a Joining Letter for the Pre-Commission Training Academy (PCTA). They undergo approximately 49 weeks of training, during which they receive a monthly stipend of ₹56,100. After successfully completing the training, candidates are commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
